Chief Executive - Kilkenny


The Watershed is operated by a limited Company, Kilkenny Local Authorities Leisure Complex Limited, t/a The Watershed which is wholly owned by Kilkenny Local Authority. The multi-purpose complex has established itself as the regions premium leisure facility and has significantly enhanced Kilkenny’s sport and leisure infrastructure, attracting almost 600,000 visitors each year. The facility consists of a 25m 6 lane swimming pool, Learner and Toddler pool, gym, sports hall, outdoor pitches (synthetic and natural surfaces) and a 400m Athletics track. Due to the pending retirement of the existing incumbent, The Watershed has retained Hartley People Recruitment to appoint a Chief Executive to facilitate the continued success and further growth of the complex into the future. Chief Executive. The Chief Executive has overall & ultimate responsibility for the operation and performance of The Watershed. He/she reports to the Chairman and Board of Directors (with a ‘dotted line’ relationship to the Director of Services, Finance in Kilkenny Local Authority). He / she will be responsible for all aspects of managing the business including the Financial Control, Operations management, Sales, Marketing, customer service and Human Resource Management. The successful applicant will have full management responsibility for the business, ensuring that the customer experience is optimised, all key performance metrics are achieved and also ensuring the sound financial and budgetary management of the business. He/she will be responsible for a team of c 45 staff including 6 no. direct reports (Finance Manager, Duty Managers x 3, Reception Supervisor and Administrative Assistant. Candidates should have. A minimum of 10 years of demonstrable and progressive professional experience within a commercial business with a broad and rounded exposure to all key business functions, including at least 5 years of relevant senior management experience with full P&L and budgetary responsibility. A relevant third level qualification. A high level of proficiency in IT Applications. Proven interpersonal, leadership and management skills with the ability to manage, motivate and develop people to achieve best results for the company and its stakeholders. Strong Financial skills with commercial acumen and an entrepreneurial style. An understanding of H&S matters and previous experience in overseeing the H&S function within a business. Strong attention to detail with the skills to drive the highest standards re the presentation of the facility and promote a culture of excellence in terms of the customer experience.
